📦 What is DBT?
Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) was launched on 1st January 2013 to reform the government subsidy delivery system.
It aims to transfer subsidies/benefits directly into the bank accounts of beneficiaries, eliminating leakages
and ensuring transparency through the use of Aadhaar and NPCI mapper.

PM-KISAN launched — ₹6,000/year direct income support to farmers via DBT.

Ayushman Bharat PMJAY launched — ₹5 lakh health cover per family per year.
2020-21
COVID-19 relief: PMGKP used DBT for ₹1.7 lakh Cr transfer to 42 Cr beneficiaries. DBT proved critical during lockdown.
2024
Ayushman Bharat expanded to ASHA/Anganwadi workers & all senior citizens 70+ via Vay Vandana Card.
2025-26
320 schemes across 56 Ministries on DBT. Cumulative transfers cross ₹52.94 lakh crore. Estimated savings ₹5.14 lakh Cr.
